The Sting - soundtrack
Released to theaters on Christmas Day, 1973, The Sting (starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford) was a huge success. The film was nominated for 10 Academy Awards, winning 7 and is included in the National Film Registry for being “… culturally, historically or aesthetically significant.”
The soundtrack to the film is mostly in the ragtime style, popular in the 1930s, as the film is set in this time period. Composer Marvin Hamlisch scored music by Scott Joplin for the film, and as a result, exposed Joplin’s ragtime music to a whole new generation of listeners.
Interesting fact: Scott Joplin was buried in an unmarked pauper’s grave for 57 years, until 1974, when The Sting won the Academy Award for Best Picture. It was only then that his grave in East Elmhurst, NY was finally given a marker.
18 x 24 white frame showing the cover and side 1 of the LP.
